you like to evade the real stuff, don't you? according to chronicles god did test david - the parallel in kings even mentions an evil spirit/devil that god sent. he also tested abraham if he'd kill his son, which in my mind seems evil (christians probably have another sense of morals though).

Why do bible thumpers have to immagine a God who test.
by jaguarbass ini get this daily email from a bible thumping friend of mine this was part of todays topic.. sometimes we wonder, "why do we have to go through these trials & breakings, lord?
" well, there are some things the lord can't reveal to you in advance because you're not yet ready.
he's got to let you go through some testings without your even knowing what the future holds, to see if you can take it, to see how loyal you are, to see how strong you are, to see how faithful you are, to see if you will be willing to do whatever he asks!

The Spirit World - where's the middle ground?
by feenx inhey everybody :)
after a post yesterday about dead loved ones returning in spirit form i started to think, from an ex jw standpoint, when it comes to the spirit world where is the middle ground?
perhaps some ex jw's don't believe in a spirit world anymore, perhaps some still do.

the average logical thinking person should look for scientific evidence.

Self Deceit and Faith.
by hillary_step inthis thread is inspired by a comment made on another thread, but i thought it would make an interesting discussion.. self deceit is described as a "misconception that is favorable to the person who holds it".
my premise is that faith is a form of self-deceit - lying to oneself.. so, i would ask of the "faithful" the following questions and would request that they be read carefully to ensure no that there is no misunderstanding of purpose.. 1) in what way is faith not self-deception?.
2) is a person who has faith in a god that you do not believe in, say for example siva, practicing a form of self-deception?.

> really...is it the same as the law of gravity?
almost. the law of gravity simply states "the apple falls down". the theory of gravity explains why and how. -

> When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me."
> For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone
know your bible:
genesis 22:1 "And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am."
samuel 24:1 "And again the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them to say, Go, number Israel and Judah."
matthew 6:13 "And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil" -

The Steps Between JWism and Atheism
by compound complex ingreetings, friends:.
i recently put up a thread entitled "when can i comment?
" new to the thought process of critical thinking, i have felt overwhelmed by the wealth of information now available to a mind opened up to society-banned material.

seems like i underwent pretty much the same procedure Awakened07 describes. for me the "canon" and "607" indeed were some very important issues. and i'm glad having read leolaias posts a few years ago.

if you show me enough evidence to back it up, i believe in bigfoot. a footprint may be a hint, but a full-scale skeleton is more convincing.
